Email From a Missionary in Ghana
Subject: A Tough Story, A Beautiful Lesson
Dearest Family,
I hope this email finds you all well. The sun is shining here in Accra, and the people are full
of such warmth and kindness. It's hard to believe it's been two months since I arrived in Ghana,
and so much has already happened!
Today, I had a particularly moving experience. We were teaching a young man named Kwame about the
plan of salvation. He's a bright and curious soul, but he's also struggling with some tough
questions about life after death. He shared a story about his best friend who passed away a few
years ago in a tragic accident.
Kwame explained that he'd been deeply affected by the loss and that he couldn't shake the feeling
that his friend was gone forever. He felt angry, frustrated, and heartbroken. It was difficult
to hear his pain, and I felt a powerful urge to comfort him.
We started by talking about the power of Jesus Christ and His atonement. We shared scripture
verses about eternal life and the resurrection. Kwame listened intently, and I could see a
flicker of hope in his eyes as he began to understand.
He finally said, "If my friend is really alive somewhere, then maybe I don't have to feel so sad.
Maybe I can still feel close to him even though he's gone."
It was a beautiful moment. His initial sadness was replaced by a sense of peace. He even smiled
as he shared his gratitude for the knowledge he'd gained.
This experience reminded me of the incredible power of the gospel. It can bring comfort in times
of sorrow and offer hope for a future filled with love and joy. It's an amazing privilege to
share these truths with people who are seeking answers to life's big questions.
I'm so grateful for the opportunity to serve here in Ghana. It's truly a blessing to learn and grow alongside these wonderful people.
Poem Inspired by the Story
The Accra sun, a golden gleam,
Warms hearts and souls, a vibrant dream.
Two months have passed, a journey bright,
For a young missionary, filled with light.
A story shared, a friend gone too soon,
A heart weighed down, a mournful tune.
Kwame, a soul with questions deep,
Of life beyond, where spirits sleep.
The missionary, with gentle grace,
Whispered of Jesus, His loving embrace.
Of resurrection, a promise so grand,
That love transcends, a guiding hand.
The Atonement, a beacon so bright,
Dispelling the darkness, bringing forth light.
Kwame's eyes, once filled with despair,
Now held a glimmer, a hopeful prayer.
"If my friend lives, in realms above,"
He whispered softly, "then I can still love."
A smile touched his lips, a tear gently fell,
As peace descended, a comforting spell.
The gospel's power, a soothing balm,
Healing wounds, calming every alarm.
A beautiful lesson, learned that day,
Hope's gentle touch, lighting the way.
The missionary's heart, filled with grace,
Knowing the power of God's embrace.
In Ghana's warmth, a spirit unbound,
Sharing the gospel, on sacred ground.

Subject: You Won't Believe What Happened Today!
Hey Fam,
Hope y'all are doing great! The Texas sun is beatin' down, but the spirit is strong here in
Lubbock. I'm learning so much, and it's amazing to see how the Lord works in the lives of the
people here.
Today, we had a service opportunity at a local food bank. It was really humbling to see so many
people in need, and it made me realize how blessed we are. We spent the afternoon sorting and
packing food boxes, and I was paired with Elder Sorenson. He's a really good guy, and we had a
great time working together.
While we were sorting food, I noticed a family I'd been trying to contact for weeks. They'd been
less active in the Church for a while, and I'd been praying hard to find a way to connect with
them. Their daughter, Sarah, was helping out at the food bank, and it was the perfect
opportunity to talk to her.
We chatted about the food bank, her family, and even a little bit about the church. She seemed
receptive, and we made plans to visit her family later this week. It felt so good to finally
connect with them!
This whole experience made me think about the power of service. Not only is it a great way to
help others, but it can also open doors to connect with people in a meaningful way.
And, speaking of meaningful connections, I had a powerful testimony moment just last week. I was
teaching a young couple about the Book of Mormon, and they asked me why I believed it was true.
I shared my personal experience with the book, how it brought peace and comfort into my life and
helped me to feel closer to Heavenly Father. As I spoke, I felt the Spirit strongly, and I knew
that the couple was feeling it too. It was a beautiful moment of confirmation and
connection.
I'm so grateful for the opportunity to serve here in Texas. I'm learning and growing every day, and I feel so blessed to be a part of this work.

Beneath the blazing Texas sun,
Hope and heartstrings come undone.
Sorting, serving, spirits soar,
In a city where faith restores.
Beside me, Elders, bonds we build,
In humble halls, our hearts are filled.
Sarah’s smile in the aisle,
Connection kindled across the miles.
Service sparks sacred scenes,
Sharing stories, sewing seams.
Testimonies tenderly told,
In Texan tales, truths unfold.
Grateful for each golden day,
Under skies where prayers play.
To family far, my love I send,
From sun-soaked days that never end.
